Could Man Utd Sensationally Play Giuseppe Rossi In Chelsea FA Cup Match Tonight?

Manchester United go up against Chelsea in the FA Cup tonight but, in a blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, his attacking options are depleted.

The Red Devils are without Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard for the FA Cup match, with the duo facing ‘two to three weeks’ out on the sidelines.

Manchester United have also seen prodigy Mason Greenwood miss out through injury and, as a result, Solskjaer is facing a big fight to get his side through.

Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes have joined Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford on the way down to Stamford Bridge.

But could Rossi be set to join them?

The forward is still a free agent and has been training with United ever since Solskjaer’s return.

The 45-year-old has previously insisted Rossi will not be signing for the Red Devils, saying: “We’re not going to sign Giuseppe I think, no, but he’s trained well with us.

“He looks sharp, he’s looking for a club so Giuseppe is probably going to stay with us for another week, unless someone takes him.

“He scored a fantastic goal yesterday [Saturday] in training. The gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson] turned around and said ‘what about that son?’

“It’s a bit of us helping him to get fit before his next move, so if there are any takers you should be quick!”

However, despite United’s attacking options being so short, Express Sport can confirm Rossi will not feature.

The Italy international has not been registered for the competition, the Premier League told Express Sport. But, despite that, fans can be forgiven for pondering a shock inclusion.

In 2012, the Red Devils announced that Paul Scholes would be playing against Manchester City.

That, despite the fact he had retired months previously.

United could have been tempted to spring a similar surprise, particularly should they suffer another injury before the match.

Sanchez may be rusty given he was crocked in the 2-0 Champions League defeat to PSG in midweek.

And Lukaku’s form has raised questions over his Old Trafford future.

Rossi was recently pictured with Paul Pogba in the United dressing room, sending tongues wagging that he could sensationally play against Chelsea.

But any potential United return does not appear to be on the cards.
