9 perish as Tanker Collides Head-On With Matatu Along the Kericho-Nakuru Highway

Nine people lost their lives while several others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a tanker and a matatu along Kericho-Nakuru highway.

The accident, which took place at the Kapmakaa area in Chepsir, happened at 6 pm on Friday and the tanker was claimed to have veered off from its lane resulting in a head-on collision.

Confirming the incidence, Kericho OCPD Justus Kitetu revealed that the truck was transporting gas from Kisumu to Nairobi.

“The accident occurred at around 1745hours on Friday. It involved a 14-seater matatu and a truck which was ferrying gas from Kisumu to Nairobi.

“It is unfortunate that the truck was descending using a climbing lane when the accident occurred,” stated the police boss.

Six people reportedly died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries while on the way to the hospital.

The survivors were taken to Kericho Referral Hospital where they were still recuperating.

The matatu, which was attached to South Rift Sacco, had 12 occupants and was headed to Kericho.

On January 3, 2019, a lorry collided with a car at Chepseon along the same highway claiming six relatives’ lives among them five children.
