Manchester United look set to be without both Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial when they face Chelsea on Monday night in the FA Cup fifth round.

The duo have been key men for the Red Devils since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival as caretaker boss.

Martial has impressed on the left side of attack, while England international Lingard has thrived at the point of a midfield diamond, as well as operating from wide on the right when United have reverted to 4-3-3.

The pair both started in the Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, but both left the field injured with neither appearing in the second half.

Martial suffered a recurrence of a groin problem which troubled him earlier in the season, while Lingard went down clutching his left hamstring.

The duo have both undergone scans on their respective injuries and both returned to United’s Carrington training ground on Friday for extra work with club physios.

Neither players injuries are thought to be long-term but they’re both set to miss out at Stamford Bridge and potentially in the club’s next Premier League match, against Liverpool, on February 25.

Solskjaer admitted on Tuesday night that, without the pair, United “need to find a different way to play”.

The Red Devils badly missed the pace and movement that the pair bring to the lineup, and that played its part in PSG being able to nullify United’s attacking threat in the second half of the last 16 encounter; United managed one shot on target all night.

That leaves United’s caretaker chief with decisions to make as he looks to bounce back from his first defeat since replacing Jose Mourinho.
