The National Land Commission (NLC) has revoked 108 illegally acquired title deeds of land around the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA). Among the titles that have been nullified are two that belong to Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA). While most of the land was undeveloped, some parcels have multi-million shilling residences.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) had urged the commission to revoke the titles because any development made in those parcels of land poses flight risks to incoming and outgoing flights from the JKIA.
“All pri
vate developments falling within the airport flight paths and funnels or located close to the strategic positions such as flight paths and the air side or any other locations deemed unsuitable, should be demolished,” stated the NLC.
KAA is in possession of a lease of 99 years for all plots of land in JKIA.
In January, the commission also established that the land on which Weston Hotel is built was illegally acquired.
Deputy President William Ruto who owns a stake in the hotel stated that the establishment was an innocent purchaser for value from somebody who got it illegally.
He added that he was doing everything in his power to make sure the illegalities were corrected.
Ruto intimated that he would be demanding payment from the organization from which he purchased the land.
