Maraga admits New batch of lawyers to bar

Chief Justice David Maraga is Thursday set to admit over 200 new advocates to the Bar, the second batch of newly trained lawyers to be admitted to the Roll of Advocates this year.

On Wednesday, The Chief Justice admitted 223 new advocates to the Bar. This was the first admission ceremony held at the Supreme Court this year.

Nick Ruto, the son of Deputy President William Ruto was one of the new advocates admitted to the bar by Chief Justice David Maraga along with MP Maina Kamanda’s son Michael Kamanda.

DP Ruto had this message for his son as he began his career.

“Hearty congratulations Nick Ruto for being admitted to the Bar. As you begin a career in the legal profession, may you stand true to your calling as a defender of justice, human rights and an avid campaigner for equality and truth,” wrote the DP.

Last year, CJ Maraga admitted over 829 advocates among them Rarieda lawmaker Otiende Amollo’s son Rodney.

Since assuming office as the Chief Justice in October 2016, Maraga has presided over the admission of over 2,000 advocates to the bar.
