Liverpool to might have just once defender for Bayern duty

Liverpool could face Bayern Munich with only one recognized centre-back following injuries to Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is planning for next week’s Champions League tie at Anfield without Lovren who sustained an injury in FA Cup’s defeat to Wolves. Gomez fractured his leg and has been ruled out for a month while Virgil van Dijk is suspended for the home match against the Bundesliga side.

“I don’t want to rule it out but I cannot really plan with it. He is not here for good reasons, because he cannot be part of training. We are back on Friday. Then from Saturday on, Dejan is back at Melwood and we will see,” Klopp told the club’s website.

“But, of course, we have to prepare it differently. If Dejan gives a sign on Monday – ‘I feel brilliant’ – then we’d have to think anew. But in the moment we prepare the game and in this preparation, Dejan is not involved. We have to find other solutions.”

Should Lovren fail to recover, Klopp will be forced to pair Joel Matip and Fabinho at the heart of the defence against Munich’s lethal man Robert Lewandowski.
