Why was Auba picked for Europa duty and Ozil omitted?

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has explained why midfielder Mesut Ozil was left of the team’s traveling squad for Europa League match against BATE Borisov.

Ozil resumed training on Tuesday morning together with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka, and Sokratis after missing Saturday’s win against Huddersfield due to illness.

Despite Ozil being pictured in training with the rest of the squad, he was left out of the squad traveling to Belarus with Emery explaining the midfielder is not ready to compete due to his latest illness.

“The players we didn’t bring in the squad were because Aaron Ramsey did not train with us and Sokratis only started training yesterday [Tuesday] and today – I think it’s enough,” he said.

“Mesut is the same. Auba, after he was sick, trained on Monday, yesterday and today, and I think he’s OK for the match,” he added.
