Isiolo Woman Representative, Rehema Jaldesa, has called for convicted sex offenders to have their manhood chopped off to discourage sexual violence.

Ms Jaldesa has argued that the 10-year jail terms, which is usually given to such offenders are very lenient when compared to the injury they cause their victims.

The vocal legislator has been on the front row actively advocating against gender-based violence especially in Isiolo county.

She has also decried what she termed as widespread cases of defilement, rape and child pregnancies across the county, with perpetrators easily getting off the hook.

Ms Jaldesa continued that many sex offender have often escaped trial and are walking freely since some cases are usually solved by elders and religious leaders, who have been soft on the perpetrators.

The Woman Rep was raising the concern during the launch of a three-year program named ‘Wajibika’ signed by the office of the county government, office of the Woman Rep and the Centre for Rights Education and Awareness.

She finally stated that the sex offender’s case should not be handled by religious leaders, but should be taken to court to be dealt with by the law.
