Angel Di Maria could possibly face UEFA sanctions after his eventful return to Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The Argentinean was viewed as Public Enemy No.1 by Manchester United supporters throughout Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 victory in the last-16 of the Champions League, but he could now face the consequences of his actions.

Di Maria began the match slowly, but after being barged into the touchline hoardings by former teammate Ashley Young, he came back to haunt United with a fine second half display.

The 30-year-old flopped at Old Trafford following a then British record £59.7 million transfer from Real Madrid in 2014, leaving the club for PSG a year later after just 32 appearances and four goals.

But in the second half on Tuesday he laid on strikes for Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe which inflicted a first defeat on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as United boss, and has put PSG in total control of the tie ahead of the return leg in three weeks time.

However, sources report that Di Maria could be banned for that game after he was seen swearing at United fans during the celebrations for Kimpembe’s goal.

After his corner picked out the France World Cup winner at the far post, Di Maria could be seen shouting “f*** off” in the direction of the United fans, as well as swearing at them in Spanish.

The winger then had a beer bottle thrown at him shortly after the goal, but responded with an assist for Mbappe’s strike five minutes later.

Under Article 15 of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations, players can be sanctioned for “insulting players or others present at the match” and/or “provoking spectators.

The former Real Madrid man and his teammates were forced to wait until 1.20am Wednesday morning for their flight out of Manchester to take off, after Marco Verratti was held back for drug testing.

United’s Paul Pogba will be banned for the return leg in Paris on March 6 after his late red card at Old Trafford.
