Nairobi unites with other counties to lobby for increment of county funds

Nairobi County has joined hands with the Counties of Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu and Uasin Gishu to successfully lobby the Commission on Revenue Allocation to increase the money given to the five largest cities and towns.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko revealed this after he attended the Nairobi City County Assembly Stakeholders Meeting today.

Sonko says that they  believe there are problems that are unique to all counties but which do not affect the rural counties. He added that they expect to receive an additional Sh4 billion in the next financial year.

“We have succeeded in paying our salaries on time since I took over office. Even the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that we negotiated with the workers’ unions have been adequately provided for in our budget.” he said in his statement

The Governor mentioned that the only challenge they are experiencing in implementing the CBA is because they are waiting for a go-ahead from the Salaries and Remuneration Commission and the National Treasury.

The Governor assured that he  will continue to push to deliver on infrastructure projects including roads, markets, sports stadia and fire stations.

“We also hope to launch our Affordable Housing projects early this year if the Assembly approves our Sessional Paper on Urban Renewal. These and other projects will help us positively touch the lives of our people.” he mentioned.

During the meeting Sonko also said that he prays for Kenyans to understand that he is among the best governor’s there will ever have.

The Governor gave a comparison with the previous administration noting that during his time, he cannot allow the diversion of funds and all the money is used on the projects it has been allocated for.

Mike Sonko also assured Nairobi residents that  he will not allow tax payers money to be pocketed by greedy officials.
