Disappointment as Caroline Mwatha is discovered dead

Caroline Mwatha, a human rights activist who went missing last Wednesday, has been found dead.

The body of Ms. Mwatha was found at City Mortuary in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon. Sources said that the woman’s body was booked at the morgue by a private citizen. Ms. Mwatha is reported to have gone missing on Wednesday, February 6 with her disappearance being reported at Buru Buru Police Station on Friday, February 8.

According to her friends, she was last seen at her home in Dandora on Wednesday morning, but since then her phone has remained off with her whereabouts still unknown.

Ms Mwatha, was a founding member of the Dandora Community Social Justice Centre, and was last seen on Wednesday last week when she took her daughter to school but failed to report to work.

On Monday, Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid said her mysterious disappearance, especially after reportedly receiving threats from police officers, raises questions.

She had been involved in documenting cases of extrajudicial killings (EJK) in Nairobi’s Dandora estate.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was offering Sh300,000 for anyone with information on missing activist.
