Kenyans Can’t Keep Calm as Obado’s Multi-Million Scandal Accomplice Lands Plum State Appointment

Remember the Corruption Scandal that rocked Governor Obado’s Migori County?

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission with help from the DCI and the DPP’s office were said to be on the case of Governor Obado who was accused of swindling 2 billion shillings from Migori County coffers.

The Governor was not being trailed alone as it emerged that he had a number of people who helped him loot the public funds from Migori County.

One of those people is Jared Kwaga. It will be remembered that Kwaga, a former close business associate of Migori Governor Okoth Obado had at one point alleged that there was a plot by the county boss to kill him.

It was said that the two fell out even though their reasons for the same still remain scanty.

Well, irregardless of the above, Jared Kwaga must now be a happy man after ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru appointed him to the board of Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.

DPP Noordin Haji and DCI chief George Kinoti are pushing to have all graft suspects barred from holding public positions.

The EACC says Kwaga and his relatives registered several companies to fraudulently acquire public funds through unmerited high-value tenders — some fictitious.

The agency in court papers says Kwaga, in a bid to conceal funds corruptly acquired through fictitious tenders, transferred Sh55,224,977 to offshore accounts in China and Hong Kong.

Yesterday, National Coordinator of Civil Society Congress Suba Churchill said  that Mucheru will have no option but to revoke the appointment.

“I think it would be an embarrassment to the appointing authority if this appointment goes the way of the former Sports Minister [Hassan Wario], who was appointed ambassador and later charged and his passport confiscated… The state must move with speed and stop the appointment. It must nullify any Gazette notices to that effect,” Suba said.
