Reports reaching our desk is that Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa narrowly escaped death at the Leopard Beach Resort in Diani on Sunday night.
This is after a hungry fire razed down the hotel destroying more than 100 rooms. Wamalwa, who was in the luxurious hotel together with guests was evacuated to the neighboring Almanara Resort.
According to reports, the fire was caused by fireworks from a wedding in the neighborhood. Katana Karisa, a caretaker at the resort, said he was cleaning the swimming pool when the fire started in one building before it quickly spread as it was windy.
“I think there was a wedding in the neighbourhood. I suspect fireworks started the fire,” he said.
