Cost of cars set to hike after government policy

The newly introduced car age policy by the government will result to the hike of car prices according to the Kenya Auto Bazaar Association (KABA).

The association warns that the policy could increase the prices of imported into Kenya by up to 100 percent.

The government ruled that the age of all used imported cars be moved up from the current 8 years to 5 years this year. This will then be followed by a 3-year age limit come 2021.

The association has warned that this is not a good police as it would mean that a car that would cost Ksh500,000 will now cost you at least Ksh1.2 million.

KABA says although the Draft National Automotive Policy is yet to be implemented, some of its recommendations are already exposing the widespread incompetence and lack of know how in the local vehicle assembly sector.
