This was not sinking down well with Chelsea players let alone the fans who were seemingly displeased with the dismal performance of the players at Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea captain and Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta has apologized to Chelsea fans after their 6-0 thumping by Manchester City and brutally declared: “It’s one of the worst nights in my career”.

City soared into a four goal lead inside 25 minutes, with the Blues all over the place defensively.

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick, Raheem Sterling nabbed two and Ilkay Gundogan also found the net.

The loss was Chelsea’s heaviest since 1991, when they fell 7-0 to Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest.

“It’s one of the worst nights in my career,” said the Spaniard and Chelsea captain.

Chelsea players, Jorginho and David Luiz react during the EPL clash with City.

“It’s difficult to explain what happened. “The first five or six minutes went well but that is not enough. It is very frustrating and disappointing. We’re conceding a lot of goals and we cannot accept that.

“When you lose 6-0 we have to accept we didn’t play well and made errors. We knew it would be tough.

“When we won at Stamford Bridge it was because we played well and were together. Today was not the case.

“All I can do is apologize to the fans because it’s not acceptable.”
