Ole Gunnar team selection at Manchester United lauded

Squad rotation has been the most successful aspect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has perfected at Manchester United, Garry Neville has stated.

Solskjaer made six changes to his squad that played away to Fulham and won the match 3-0 to jump to top four spot. A notable change was Romelu Lukaku’s introduction in place of Marcus Rashford who has been brilliant since the changes at the club’s helm. Neville added that Solskjaer might have learned that practice from Sir Alex Ferguson when the legendary manager coached both at the club. The former full-back says that Ferguson could call him aside and tell him the games he will be playing but was a month or six weeks ago.#

“We played under a genius in Sir Alex Ferguson. I witnessed it first hand towards the end of my career, where he would tell me the two or three games that I was getting a month or six weeks in advance, so I could plan for them. Most managers say the next game is the only one they think about, but he wasn’t like that.” Neville told Sky Sports.

Man United will play PSG on Tuesday in the Champions League round of 16 where their opponents have been hit with injury concerns. Neymar and lately Edinson Cavani and Marco Veratti have been confirmed to have suffered injuries that may rule them entirely of the two-legged clashes against the English side.

“I think Ole got some of that thinking with his team selection, making six changes against Fulham. It is such a huge period coming up, the toughest tests are ahead, and I think obviously the team will need to be strong on Tuesday [against PSG] and against Chelsea next Monday. He’s prioritising, making sure he trusts his squad. Rotating gives them the belief that they can get results regardless while also understanding that he can’t get the same level of performance from them three times in a week.” Neville explained.

They will also play Chelsea on Monday in the FA Cup fifth-round tie
