Kabogo defends fresh graduates seeking employment

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has come to the defense of many young Kenyans languishing on the streets after unsuccessfully seeking employment opportunities in various sectors in the country.

Kabogo has now asked employers to desist from demanding that  graduates must have the necessary experience in a specific field of employment before being hired.

The former governor said such policies were denying the graduates employment opportunities thus increasing the rate of unemployment in the country.

Kabogo argues that if employers will change the policy then many graduates will be accommodated in various sectors of the economy thus reducing unemployment to manageable standards.

“The economy of this country will not grow as long as our graduates are still unemployed, employers in all sectors our economy must stop setting stringent policies aimed at denying out graduates employment,” said Kabogo.

The latest figures from the United Nations Human Development report shows that one in five Kenyans between 15 and 34 is unemployed, a much higher rate than any other country in the region.

Though unemployment Rate in Kenya is expected to be 10.50 percent by the end of this quarter, according to Trading Economics global macro models and analysts expectations. The high number of graduates being churned out by universities is posing a treat to this target and much more ought to done to control the situation.
