The truth shall set you free?? Kenyans give their take on honesty in relationships

We’ve all grown into embedding the saying “The truth shall set you free” into our lives, be it from a religious point of view or even from the biggest childhood scam of  “Sema tu ukweli, sitakuchapa”(if you know, you know). Truth prevails all especially in a court of Justice(or so they say).

And to some extent, that statement is valid. However, some people argue ignorance is bliss and what you do not know cannot hurt you. Often, spouses choose to hide a part of their lives because they feel opening up will completely ruin their marriage. Some men say they hide the truth from their wives because they want to protect their women from unnecessary pain.

The age-old question is, if you have to hide it, then isn’t it obvious whatever you are doing is wrong? You would think people would think like that wouldn’t you?

I guess that will just remain a rhetorical question.  TUKO.CO.KE asked Kenyans why married men often choose to lie to their wives instead of just say the truth and the answers were hilarious. One said it is a game of an eye for an eye. The wife keeps secrets so the husband also decides to do the same. “Because wives keep some secrets from their husbands,” Raph Lauren Omulama chimed.

Another guy thought women overreact whenever they receive any kind of news so the best thing is to keep your mouth shut. A lady then explained women are very emotional beings who might burst into tears because of a slight misunderstanding. “Do not believe the woman who lies on your chest,” one netizen wrote.

Apparently, ladies are conniving humans who can use a man’s weakness against him so it is not wise to trust them with secrets. Also, according to many self-proclaimed relationship experts, a healthy relationship needs secrets because the truth ruins everything.
