Spurs target Leicester City ace as potential Christian Eriksen replacement

James Maddison has emerged as a target for Tottenham

Tottenham will make a move to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison if Christian Eriksen leaves in the summer, according to reports.

The Denmark international has been linked with a move away from Spurs in the summer, with Real Madrid and Barcelona among the top clubs keen on him.

Eriksen’s current contract expires in the summer of 2020, and it is claimed there are fears within the club they could lose their talisman when the transfer window reopens.

And, according to the  Daily Mirror Spurs have identified Maddison as a potential replacement.

Eriksen’s long-term future at Tottenham is in doubt

Tottenham are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old, dating back to his days at Coventry between 2013 and 2016 and he has flourished since his £24million move to Leicester from Norwich City last summer.

His impressive performances for the Foxes – he has five goals and four assists this term – even led to a debut call up to the senior England side.

He is one of a number of homegrown players thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, as they look to find their next young English star.

Bournemouth youngster David Brooks, who is enjoying an impressive breakthrough season for the Cherries, is another on their list.

Spurs are also said to be keeping a close eye on 18-year-old Leeds United winger Jack Clarke,Hull City’s 22-year-old Jarrod Bowen and Norwich right-back Max Aarons.
