Uhuru: Tshisekedi’s visit is aimed at strengthening ties between Kenya and Congo

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday received the newly elected President of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi at State House Nairobi.

The Kenya head of state cited that Tshisekedi’s visit is aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries, Kenya and DRC.

Through his official twitter account, President Kenyatta expressed his delightfulness to have received Tshisekedi.

He posted, “I am delighted to have received the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, H.E. Felix Tshisekedi, at State House, Nairobi. President Tshisekedi’s visit is aimed at strengthening ties between our two countries.”

Last month, President Kenyatta and his new political friend the ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga traveled to Congo for the inauguration ceremony of Tshisekedi.

President Kenyatta was however the only head of state present during the inaugural ceremony despite Tshisekedi inviting close to 21 states.

He was sworn in on last month as Democratic Republic of Congo’s president, succeeding Joseph Kabila in the vast central African country’s first transfer of power through an election in 59 years of independence.

Tshisekedi’s victory in the Dec. 30 election was marred by accusations he struck a backroom deal with the outgoing president to deny victory to another opposition candidate.
