KPL midweek: Kipkirui’s strike earns win for Gor Mahia while AFC Leopards fall to Mount Kenya United

Defending Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia prepared for Sunday’s Mashemeji derby with a 1-0 win over Vihiga United. Nicholas Kipkirui scored the all important goal on the stroke of half time.

The Champions looked leggy and fatigued after Saturday’s high energy continental assignment against Zamalek of Egypt. the win moves K’ogallo to 19 points on the log, five behind leaders Mathare United.

In other KPL matches played on Wednesday, it was a baptism of fire for new AFC Leopards coach after he saw his side fall 2-1 to relegation threatened Mount Kenya FC. MKU struck first though Ndirangu in the 16th minute but Leopards equalized 10 minutes late through Abdalla Salim. The away team got their second win of the season in the 73rd minuted to move clear of the relegation places while AFC Leopards remain 15th with 10 points.

Elsewhere, Western Stima were 1-0 victors over Zoo Kericho at the Bukhungu Stadium.
