The Relationship Dilemma

Can I tell you all a secret?  You don’t have to be in a relationship.

I mean, look around you. Everyone is trying to be in a relationship. Others are in forced relationships and they are being choked to death.

Girls aren’t beautiful unless they are needed.

Boys aren’t men unless they are sleeping with someone.

People aren’t lovable unless they are in a relationship.

Relationships may not make you happy. As amazing as romance is, and I believe it is, it is not the only type of love that exists. I have experienced friendships and comradeship that is pure and more deeper than that of couples who swear till death do us path-and yet they ignore friendships.

More often than not, I have heard single people confess “nobody loves me”. It pains me because if you ask them: where are your friends, where are your siblings, where are your classmates- they respond yes, but go on to say that it doesn’t count.

Love Re-imagined

It counts. Love doesn’t vary just because someone doesn’t want to sleep with you. In a manner of fact, doesn’t this fact make it more real because they want nothing-not even a date- just to see you happy and smiling brightly.

It is wonderful to be in love. I’m sure it is magical. But it is also amazing to stop by a movie theater with four of your other friends. It is also magical to travel the country or even the world with a bunch of strangers who are really excited to form new experiences.

The One

The problem is that we’ve made imagined everything to be a fairy-tale-‘the one’. Have you ever stopped to think that ‘the one’ maybe you-accepting yourself the way you are, having fun, being happy and loving yourself. Instead of searching for our better halves, we should piece ourselves together and be ‘the one’.

I wasn’t born unfinished. I am the one who makes myself better.
