Manchester United Midfielder Paul Pogba Reveals Man City Player He Looks Up To

Manchester United‘s Paul Pogba has said Kevin De Bruyne is one of the players he looks up to in world football. The Manchester City midfielder is enduring a difficult season after two serious knee injuries but his contribution to the Blues’ title-winning 2017-18 campaign was outstanding and he remains one of Europe’s premium midfielders when he’s on song.

Speaking in an interview with NBC, Pogba was asked who he idolised when growing up and he reeled off a list of iconic names.

“When I was younger I was more attacking so I used to watch Ronaldinho, Zidane, Ronaldo, all those attacking players,” Pogba said. “But now, like I said… I used to look up to Yaya Toure, Abou Diaby, Iniesta, Xavi, Scholes, Carrick, Pirlo, as a midfielder you know, I look at them.

“Even now I look at Kevin De Bruyne, Modric, Toni Kroos, and I just want to be myself. Try to learn from them and be myself, Paul Pogba.

“I try to be myself, always be myself, you know, and try to do things that… Steven Gerrard, Ozil, Frank Lampard, those players, what they did in their careers. I try to get all the best quality and the best attributes of all those players and make it myself. Make it Paul Pogba.”

Pogba has flourished under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho and he says the Norwegian’s style has barely changed since the pair worked together in the reserves many years ago.

“I had him for a few games,” Pogba said. “He took me to play for the reserves, a few games. I didn’t know exactly what he was. I wasn’t being coached by him a lot, but now it’s different and I get to know him more. As a person he didn’t change. Always the same one, close to the players, talk to the players, smile on his face.

“When it’s work, it’s work, but after work he’s just being himself and [he’s got a] big heart. You can see that’s him. He didn’t change – except the hair!”

Pogba’s current form is perhaps his best since he joined re-joined United in 2016 and he explained the reason behind his decision to return to the club from Juventus.
