Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals the Arsenal legend that has played a huge part in his game

Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted he was inspired by the Gunners all-time leading goalscorer Thierry Henry, amidst comparisons to the former France international and another club legend, Ian Wright.

Aubameyang has been in sensational form since joining Arsenal for a club-record fee last January, scoring 25 goals in just 37 matches – 15 of which have come this season, putting him second in the hunt for the Premier League’s golden boot behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

The goals from the Gabon international have been vital for Unai Emery’s side this season as they continue to push towards a return to the Champions League, with Aubameyang establishing a solid relationship with strike partner Alexandre Lacazette.

His form in front of goal has led to comparisons with Arsenal greats Thierry Henry and Ian Wright, the top-two scorers in the club’s history, and Aubameyang admitted he was inspired by the Gunners’ famous number 14.

“It’s nice to see it and reach that kind of goals. It’s nice to be compared to [Wright and Henry]. Legends of course,” he told Sky Sports Match zone.

“Thierry inspired a lot of strikers, because what he did in the past was amazing. He was so fast and clinical, so I think a lot of strikers took some things from him.

Aubameyang has already broken one record this season as his strike in the midweek victory over Cardiff City saw him become the fastest player to hit 25 goals for Arsenal.
