Ombudswoman pushing for salaries display of top state administrators to the public

Would you risk the whole of Kenya knowing your salary?If you cannot then better think twice about going for the top seats of the state.

Speaking in Nairobi during the launch of the Kenyan open government Partnership National action plan, the deputy president championed transparency and accountability in public administration.

A campaign enhancing the openness appeal has targeted salaries.The ombudwoman wants all state agencie to disclose the salary scales of their top executives like the Kenya Ports Athority does on their website.

Ms Florence Kajuju also wants all State firms to post on their websites information on how they spend the monies allocated to them.

She has, however, declared county governments the poorest performing public entities when it comes to providing information to the public.

She spoke on Thursday during the launch of a survey by the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) that she chairs.

Ms Kajuju said the benefits envisioned in the Access to Information Act that was enacted in 2016, which was an actualisation of Article 35 of the Constitution, are yet to be fully realised.

“The legal requirement under the Act (requires) public entities to voluntarily and continually avail certain types of information. It became effective from September 21, 2017,” states the report.
