Suspended Nandi police officer accused of murder commits suicide

A 24-year-old police officer attached to the Weseges Anti-Stock Theft Unit on Wednesday committed suicide by slitting his throat in Nandi.

The deceased, Cosmas Kipchumba Biwot had been suspended after he allegedly shot and killed his wife Jane Njoki Wambui and her child last year in Subukia, Nakuru County.

According to Nandi East Officer Commanding Police Division David Nyabuto, the deceased is reported to have been been in search of a retired Army Colonel who resides in the area.

“After a drinking spree over the weekend in Nandi Hills town, Kipchumba tip-toed to the Colonel’s vehicle as he was parking, hit him with a blunt object before ransacking it looking for his gun but he did not find it,” said Nyabuto.

It is not clear what transpired that caused him to take his own life.

Kipchumba was out on bond in the ongoing murder case where he allegedly shot 26-year-old Jane Njoki in the head 20 times before turning the gun on his 4-year-old daughter, Shantel Nyambura killing them both. His body was moved to Kapsabet County Referral Mortuary.
