Vocal legislator and leader of Majority at the National Assembly Majority Aden Duale has declared that the top priority for the House after resuming will be to look for a replacement for the Inspector General Police Joseph Boinnet.
Duale stated that Parliament will receive the names of successful candidates of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) interviewed by a select panel appointed by the President.
IG Boinnet is set to leave office after his four year term comes to an end in March 2019.
Later the names will be forwarded to the Head of State then sent back to Parliament, where the House will vet and consider the nominees for approval or rejection.
More importantly, the House will focus on ensuring the passage of the Two-Thirds Gender Bill that was deferred last year in November due to quorum hitches.
“I will promptly present the agenda to the House Business Committee once it’s sitting on February 13 ion a bid to fast track the vote on the Bill,” Duale stated.
Speaker Justin Muturi directed that the bill is deferred until February 2019 when voting is expected to be carried out.
He further cautioned the legislators that they not only needed 233 members present in the Chamber but more importantly in support of the Bill for it to pass.
The National Assembly currently has 76 women leaders out of which 23 were elected, 47-woman representatives and six who were nominated.
