DP Ruto issues new statement warning his supporters against early 2022 campaigns

Deputy President William Ruto has issued a statement urging his supporters to stop early political campaigns over his planned 2022 presidential bid.

In a rare press statement from his spokesman David Mugonyi, Ruto distanced himself from those who have been mobilizing voters ahead of the 2022 presidential campaign.

He added that he was firmly committed to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s big four agenda and would only campaign at the appropriate time.

“It has come to the attention of the Deputy President that there are individuals and/or groups who are purporting to be mobilising support connected to his 2022 presidential campaign. At no time has the Deputy President approved, canvassed or engaged in any other form of preparation for a presidential or other campaign after the last Presidential Election.”

“At the moment, he is working to support the President to ensure that Jubilee’s transformational agenda, especially the Big 4, is fully realised in every part of the country,” the DP said.

The development came amid calls by President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for politicians to stop politicking and focus on development programs.

Kenyatta and Odinga’s allies have accused Ruto of being behind the “team tanga tanga” a group of MPs who have been actively accompanying the DP and campaigning for his 2022 presidential election.
