Relief as Government Suspends Transport CS Macharia’s Mediocre Directive

Nairobians can now breath a sigh of Relief after the Government today suspended Car free days for another two weeks. This the government has said is to  enable them to vet hawkers and traders so that they are sure who will be occupying the area provided.

“These vetting will involve measures to enhance security taking into consideration the recent terror attack in DusitD2,” said CS Macharia

In his directive, Nairobians were to be forced to cycle or walk to the Central Business District since no cars were to be allowed in the CBD on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Transport PS Paul Maringa said there will be dedicated parking in Uhuru Park and Railways as no car will be allowed within the CBD during these two days.

Maringa said during the set days, hawkers will be allowed to sell their wares with the move set to generate Sh39.5 million daily revenue to the government from over 100,000 hawkers.

Kenyans and transport stakeholders were however quick to oppose the move by the government with many terming it as being ill-thought.
