Why Manchester United have something to smile about ahead of PSG clash

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is unlikely to feature for the Ligue 1 side in either leg of the mouthwatering Champions League last 16 tie against Manchester United.

The Brazilian suffered a metatarsal injury in a midweek French Cup tie against Strasbourg with initial examinations revealing a “reactivation of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal,”

Speaking after Sunday’s comfortable 4-1 win over Rennes, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said: “It will be very difficult to have him with us to play against Manchester United. It will be very difficult. As I said yesterday, it’s too early to speak about his return.”

Neymar suffered a similar injury last season that kept him out of action for three months before making a return at the World Cup.

“To start with, we must wait at least one week – this and his reaction to treatment will be vital.

“Only then can we be more precise. Still, it is no secret, it will be very tough.” He added

PSG travel to Old Trafford for the first leg on Tuesday 12th February before hosting the Red Devils in Paris on Wednesday 6th March.
