In a meeting attended by sub county exams officer in charge of special education Soud Babo, Ward administrator Katore Dominic, principals and board members from different schools a huge revelation was made regarding the education of our chilren in some areas.
The meeting was conveyed by Marafa Ward MCA Rensobn Kambi at Marafa boys Secondary School to issue chequesto the schools.
Muttai expounded to reach the 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary, they had selected all students including one who had scored 85 marks in KCPE to ensure they get a place in the 25 secondary public and private schools in the area.
However, surprisingly he said only 40 per cent have reported to high school.
Traditionally he said lack of access to education in Magarini has been attributed to poverty but the current situation clearly showed the day schools which are supposed to be free are receiving a low number of students.
“I wonder whether the issue of fees is the problem because borders have reported while day scholars where education is completely free the number is still low. Out of the nine sub counties, Magarini is recording the lowest,’’ he said.
The Magarini sub county education Director directed secondary school principals to launch a door to door campaign to recruit the students selected to join form 1.
We will go for them , to look for them in their homes, they don’t need uniforms for them to report to secondary,’’ he said.
Watala secondary, one of the day schools that had been earmarked to get 176 students, the Director said less than 20 have reported.
