Why Counsel Qureshi will be staying in Kenya longer than expected

In the presidents vow to deal with corruption in the country,he revealedduring the corruption conference at bomas that the state would continue engaging with the international community to ensure that extradition of corrupt cases goes through.

“The coming months, I believe, we will see increased repatriation of the process of crime held outside the country as well as extradition of suspects and receipt of key evidence to support both local and international based cases,” stated the president.

This comes after recent rulling that allowed Queens counsel Khawar Qureshi to prosecute case facing the Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.

Justices Hellen Omondi, Mumbi Ngugi, Chacha Mwita, Francis Tuiyot and William Musyoka ruled that Qureshi does not need a Kenyan Advocate Practicing Certificate nor a work permit to prosecute the case.

“It is our finding that the foreign counsel is properly appointed to appear before us in this matter,” the judges ruled.

He further assured regarding high profile cases that no one is beyond the reach of the long arm of te law no matter how powerful or influencial they may perceive temselves to be.

“With the support received from my government, all the institutions in the criminal justice system, it is indeed my firm belief that the high profile prosecution cases that have already been brought before the court are just the opening act,” he continued
