2019 will be the year of Migori governor Okoth Obado. The man who made headlines for all the wrong reasons last year. The county boss has been charged with the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Sharon Otieno and their unborn son.

Sharon’s mutilated body was found in a thicket in Kodera forest early September last year. An autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed eight times. Details also reveal that she had been gang-raped by at least four people.

Obado and his two aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero have since been charged with the double murder case. Obado spent more than one month in custody last year before being released on bail.

The DPP has however indicated that the governor could be intimidating witnesses. It is on this basis that Noordin Haji wants to move to the Supreme Court to force Obado and other senior government officials who have been charged with crimes to vacate their offices.

“I have been fighting to ask those people we have been charged to step aside; they must step aside and that is in the Constitution and it is a right that we must have,” he said the Anti-corruption conference on Thursday.

Citing  Obado, he noted that the governor, who is facing murder charges, was back in office allegedly intimidating and threatening witnesses.

“As Kenyans, you will blame us that we have taken some governors to court, we have charged them, but they are now back in office,” Haji noted. “We have charged two governors; one for murder and another one for corruption now they are walking outside there intimidating and threatening witnesses especially those working in their counties,” he continued.

Obado was released under very tight conditions. He was not to go 2o kilometers near Homa Bay County. He was also not supposed to contact Sharon’s family. Does this mean that the governor has broken all these conditions?

If this is the case, then Justice Jessie Lessit should act.
