Has DP William Ruto unleashed a new Campaign vehicle?

2019 has not started very well for Deputy President William Ruto. After setting the country ablaze with his Tanga Tanga movement last year, the DP looked like he was competing against himself to be the next president.

Ruto made whistle stops across the country, launching several projects in every place he visited. Some people have argued that these projects are non-existent. But it looked like the Jubilee Development Agenda would be the basis on which Ruto would be campaigning on.

Latest happenings in the government have however made tis difficult. President Uhuru Kenyatta surprised many when he appointed Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as his chief minister.

on Tuesday, Uhuru appointed Matiang’i to chair a committee mandated to supervise all government projects, including the Jubilee government’s legacy-driven ‘Big Four’ agenda.

Dr Matiang’i will chair the newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee, and will be deputised by his Treasury counterpart Henry Rotich.

In other words, the fierce CS has taken over the roles of the Deputy President. Now Ruto will not need to tanga tanga across the country launching projects. So how will he campaign?

Ruto is a man on a mission. He can’t be put down easily. And it seems the DP has just launched a new campaign vehicle that has nothing to do with government projects.

From Thursday, the DP has been hosting different church denominations in his Karen Home. On Thursday, he held a prayer meeting with the PEFA church. Pictures posted on his social media pages showed the DP in serious prayers.

On Friday, he held a meeting with pastors from the African Independent Pentecostal Church (AIPCA) again in Karen.

Could Ruto be planning to use the church as his campaign vehicle? Kenyans are very religious and this could be a master stroke.
