Superpower nation promises Kenya to fight terrorism

China and Kenya today agreed not to allow any illegal terrorist  group or individual to use their territories for terrorism as their foreign ministers discussed development, security and counter-terrorism during their dialogue in Nairobi.

The Chinese Government has assured Kenya of its support in the war against terrorism, following the 14 Riverside Drive terror attack and the recent Al Shabaab raid on a Chinese road construction site in Shimbirey, on the outskirts of Garissa town.Image result for china fights terrorism

China has the largest military in the world and has a navy composed of hundreds of commissioned ships and aircrafts and over 200,000 active personnel. China also possesses nuclear weapons and has one of the biggest military budgets in the world.

In a message conveyed to Foreign Affairs CS Dr. Monica Juma, Wang Yi, China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister, conveyed the country’s condolences and sympathies to the victims and the affected families.Image result for monica juma Wang Yi

“China firmly opposes all forms of terrorism, and will continue to offer unwavering support to Kenya’s efforts to fight against terrorism and maintain national security,” said Wang Yi.

Earlier on, Dr. Juma held a briefing with foreign diplomats stationed in Nairobi, where she assured them of the government’s commitment to fight terror as she also sought their support on the same.

“While this attack on the Dusit Complex was on the Kenyan territory, it was targeted at the world. The complex hosts a range international establishments and interests,” she said.Related image

The Foreign Affairs CS, who was accompanied by CSs Fred Matiangi (Interior), Najib Balala (Tourism), and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said, more than ever, concerted efforts by the international community were critical to degrading terror groups.

“The attack is a clear reminder that the terrorists’ objective is to change the way of life of other societies is alive. It is a reminder that no country is immune to international terrorism,” the CS told the diplomats.

At least 10 suspects have so far been arraigned in court over the 14 Riverside attack, with police now allowed to detain them for 30 days to complete the investigations.
