Naivasha police officer fires at lover 19 times, takes own life

Love gone sour! the rate of married couples killing their love ones before taking their own lives is alarming.

Police in Nakuru have launched investigations in a case where their colleague opened fire at his lover before he took his own life.

Gideon Emanman, an officer attached at Kipkunyo AP camp committed suicide shortly after he fired 19 rounds of ammunition directed to his girlfriend who police identified as Margret Nduta.

According to investigators, three bullets hit Nduta on the thigh and she is currently admitted at Naivasha sub-county hospital in critical condition. Thinking that Nduta had succumbed, Emanman fled and broke in to a house of his colleague as police trailed him.

Fearing that he would be arrested, Emanman used the G3 riffle assigned to him to end his life.

“APC Gideon Emanman who was reported firing indiscriminately at Nduro trading center has been found having shot himself dead in a house at Kipkunyo AP camp. He broke the house of an officer who was on duty to seek refuge when he realised the police were pursuing him,” read a report filed at Kongoni Police Station on Sunday, January 20.

The incident comes one week after a GSU officer in Kwale is said to have shot himself in the head.

He left a suicide note indicating that he thought he was a letdown to his family and the only thing he could do to solve it was to eliminate himself. Cases of suicide in the police service have in the recent past been surging in the county.

Authorities said they will launch a study to investigate why rate of suicide among police officers was gaining momentum.
