Preparations and protection of journalists ahead of 2022 elections initiated by MCK

Politicians have stepped up efforts to build new alliances as the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 hots up.

The meetings are among political activities that have seen different players warm up to each other, signalling new political alliances and breaking up of old ones.

Deputy President William Ruto has also been crisscrossing the country seeking to bolster his 2022 presidential bid.

Meam while the Media Council of Kenya is monitoring counties that are hostile to members of the press ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Speaking in Ol Kalou town, Nyandarua County, on Friday, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Victor Bwire noted that early campaigns pose big threats to journalists.

The MCK will also engage county bosses in helping journalists access correct information as part of efforts to improve their relationship.

“We all have duties but the bigger one is service to residents,” he said. “Access to correct information will help residents participate in the counties development agenda.”

During the last election in Kenya, we were hit by waves upon waves of fake news articles. We received fake pictures of Raila. We received fake pictures of Uhuru. Fake websites were set up. Fake Facebook pages and fake Twitter pages were aplenty.
