Police in Konoin, Bomet, have launched a man hunt of two employees of a private security firm in connection to a murder at Unilever tea estate on Wednesday night.
The guards are accused of beating a 25-year-old man, who later succumbed to injuries.He is alleged to have been found picking tea at Koiwa tea estate.
Area police boss Alex Shikondi told the Star they have forwarded the KK security guards’ identification to detectives.
“We went to the factory where the two guards work and got details of their identities. The guards have not reported to work. We are hunting for them,” he said.
Shikondi said two other guards, who witnessed the incident, have recorded statements.On Thursday evening, irate members of the public stormed the factory where the suspects work, however, police acted swiftly and restrained them.
Shikondi said the deceased was bundled into a car and driven around. He was beaten thoroughly and dumped by the roadside outside the tea estate.
He said a Good Samaritan found the man unconscious and took him to Kapkatet Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“He was taken to the hospital with fresh bruises on his body, a wound on the left leg and a swollen back,” Shikondi said.
The car used by the suspects has been towed to Mogogosiek police station as investigations continue.
“Police found weapons suspected to have been used to beat up the deceased, fresh tea leaves and a T-shirt with blood stains in the car,” Shikondi said.
Meanwhile, the police boss said no one has been arrested over a robbery that happened at the same estate last week.
