It’s the end of the road as Ambassador Godec bids Kenya goodbye

Ever since the US appointed Senator McCarter as the new Ambassador to Kenya it was clear that the current Ambassaor Robert Godec was now counting his days as the US envoy to Kenya and soon or later he would leave, well that time has now come.

Ambassador Robert Godec paid a farewell visit to a number of leaders as he prepares to leave office as the Kenya envoy to the US  at the end of January.

His first stop was at the AU special envoy Raila Odinga home in Karen where he pledged US government’s support in the fight against radical extremism.

Then later in the day he went to see the Chief Justice David Maraga at his judiciary offices.

In his statement CJ Maraga wished Godec well, noting that he had enjoyed working with him and on behalf of the judiciary he wished him well in his next line of work.

Ambassador Godec would later visit interior CS Fred Matiang’i in his whirlwind farewell tours.

Matiang’i noted that Godec had made a significant contribution towards stabilizing and expanding the country’s democratic space during his tenure as US envoy to Kenya.

“I also thank him for the positive engagement we’ve had on various security matters,” he added.

Godec who is a career diplomat has served in Nairobi for six years since January 16, 2013.

President Donald Trump nominated former Senator Kyle McCarter in March last year to replace Godec in Nairobi.

He has since been confirmed as the new US Ambassador to Kenya.

McCarter speaks fluent Swahili and has charity ties with Kenya.
