Callum Wilson Update As Chelsea Close In On Gonzalo Higuain

The Blues have been linked to the striker with Maurizio Sarri keen to bring in a new front man.

It was reported earlier this week that Bournemouth have placed a mammoth £75million price-tag on Wilson to try to ward off any bids.

Chelsea seem set to end their hunt for a striker with Gonzalo Higuain believed to be signing on loan imminently.

And Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has revealed that no official interest has been shown for Wilson.

“I am confident [we will keep Wilson],” Howe said.

“We have had no interest in any of our players, everything has just been speculation, which you understand. This is the month for it.

“I don’t want to place any more pressure on Callum or any of my players in my team by talking about things that aren’t important.

“What would be important is Callum working hard for the team and producing his best performances on a consistent basis.

“For him, thinking about transfer fees, values or other clubs – I would recommend he focuses on Bournemouth and our games to come.”

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently revealed he believes that Wilson would only leave if he demanded a move.

“Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson would appear to fit the club’s [Chelsea‘s] choice,” Sheth recently said.

“He’s 26 years old, he’s got Premier League experience, and he’s got potential sell-on value, which is quite important in today’s market.

“Chelsea we’re told are prepared to pay £50m for Callum Wilson but competition comes from West Ham United.

“They see him as a primary target if and when Marko Arnautovic makes that move to China.

“However Bournemouth, here’s the issue for clubs like West Ham and Chelsea, are under no pressure to sell.

“They cite the fact that Wilson has still got three-and-a-half years left of his contract.

“It seems that any potential move in the future for Callum Wilson would have to be fuelled by Callum Wilson himself.

“So Bournemouth are saying all the right things, they want to tell their fans ‘we don’t have to sell, he’s not for sale’.”
