There’s certainly no love lost between Manchester United hero Paul Scholes and former Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho.

Following the Portuguese’s sacking last month, the Ginger Prince has once again gone in hard on Mourinho, slamming him for his ‘lack of respect’ to the club, the most successful in English football.

Mourinho departed Old Trafford after two and a half years – a similar tenure to which he had experienced at previous clubs – with the club experiencing a remarkable upturn of form under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In an exclusive interview with Norwegian station TV-2 to former player Brede Hangeland, Scholes has expressed his delight in his former teammate taking over the reins at United, as well as reasserting his disdain for the previous period under Mourinho;

“He (Solskjaer) has brought back the smiles, and also with the fans. That’s the most important. Now it’s impossible to get tickets. The stadium is full. Everyone is looking forward to seeing Manchester United again.”

Since his appointment, Solskjaer has broken club records by leading United to six successive wins on the bounce – something neither Sir Matt Busby or Sir Alex Fergsuon achieved – with players such as Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, and Marcus Rashford enjoying a remarkable riotous reinvigoration.

Furthermore, they’ve managed to retain as many clean sheets in the league as they managed in their previous 20 games under Mourinho. The difference in mood surrounding Manchester United at the moment is palpable, and Scholes pinpoints exactly where he thinks things went wrong;

“I felt he (Mourinho) didn’t want to be there. He engineered his move away perfectly in the end. His press conferences were embarrassing, so negative, it was obvious in the end the players didn’t want to play for him. The right thing happened in the end.”

In regards to his previous comments during Mourinho’s spell;

“I was just being honest about the questions put to me and what I was seeing from the manager (Mourinho). He started complaining very early on in pre-season, saying the kids weren’t good enough, which I didn’t like from the start.”

“He fell out with Antonio Valencia who is the nicest man in the world. It’s impossible to fall out with Antonio Valencia. That was a big sign for me that something wasn’t quite right.”

“The last manager showed lack of respect and was an embarrassment to the club, which is something Ole would never do. He has realised that he’s there to serve what’s probably the world’s greatest football club, and he does it with a smile on his face.”

Jose Mourinho returns to the spotlight this week as he takes a guest punditry role for the Asian Cup group match between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
