Funny how the search for justice in Kenya always twists to ridicule the plaintiff with high hopes in the law for correcting unfair malpractices.
Though unique progress, the National Youth Service first conviction has still raised eyebrows. Selesio Karanja, who is a church elder, was charged alongside former Devolution PS Peter Mangiti, senior deputy director general Adan Harakhe and 21 others.
On Thursday, Milimani Anti-Corruption Court chief magistrate Lawrence Mugambi found Karanja guilty of fraudulent procurement practice involving a Sh 47.6 million tender. To these he has been fined sh 4 million or serve four years in jail if he fails to pay.
Karanja is accused of engaging in a fraudulent act in procurement for inserting the name of Dama Services Ltd in the tender opening register for the procurement of training materials in the Automotive Engineering faculty tender No.NYS/RT/29/2014-2015 which the said Dama services had not been approved for the said tender.
Of concern now by Kenyans is the fine is fair compared to the amount he extorted.
