Dusit Attackers finally brought down by Kenyan forces

All attackers at the 14 Riverside drive have been killed, a police boss told the Star on Wednesday amid evacuation in Nairobi, Westlands area.

According to the official, there were five gunmen killed by Recce Squad and the suicide bomber who blew himself up during the Tuesday blast.

The source who sought anonymity said the Recce Squad were securing the area.

There was gunfire on the seventh floor of DusitD2 Hotel on Riverside drive at 6am, raising fears that terrorists could still be in the building holding people hostage.

A source told the Star his relative was among 50 people evacuated by security forces at 4am on Wednesday morning.

Among the people rescued by security forces are a top politician’s son and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale’s daughter.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had said at 11 pm that all buildings at the scene had been secured and scores of people evacuated.

The gunmen blasted their way into Dusit hotel and office complex killing at least 15 people and sending workers diving under desks to escape an attack claimed by al Shabaab.

By 1am, 15 bodies had been taken to Chiromo Mortuary and more were expected.

Identification papers indicated that 11 were Kenyan, one was American and one was British.

The other two were not carrying documents.
