Can Marcus Rashford be as good or influential as Kylian Mbappe?

In-form Marcus Rashford has the potential to become “as valuable as Kylian Mbappe” if he continues to impress and improve for Manchester United.

That’s the view of former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino who was writing about the star who has netted six times in the last nine games in his column for The Times.

Rashford, who is currently being prefered to Belgian international Romelu Lukaku up front, turned in another impressive performance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday as United won 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur.

“Marcus Rashford was terrific (against Tottenham Hotspur),” wrote Cascarino. “After the FA Cup final in May, Jose Mourinho said he lacked presence – he doesn’t now.

“With the pace and threat he possesses he could become as valuable as Kylian Mbappe.”

Cascarino also had praise for United keeper David de Gea who was Man of the Match against Spurs.

“I can’t recall a goalkeeping display at Wembley like that since Jan Tomaszewski’s for Poland against England in 1973. David de Gea has not been at his best this season but he’s one of the best around – everything Spurs threw at him he saved and not always with his hands.

It’s a skill for a goalkeeper to use his feet the way he did. The finishing wasn’t great but that wouldn’t give De Gea the credit he deserves.”

Solskjaer has never made any secret of his admiration for Rashford, regularly mentioning him in interviews before he was appointed as the United interim manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in December.
