Why Arsenal & Former Chelsea Keeper Petr Cech Is Retiring

Arsenal goalie Petr Cech is retiring at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old keeper made the announcement on social media on Tuesday.

Cech started the season as Arsenal’s number one in the Premier League. That was after Unai Emery signed Bernd Leno in the summer.

However Cech has since lost his place in the team, while he’s only made seven Premier League appearances this year.

Cech has also played twice apiece in the League Cup and Europa League.

Why Arsenal’s keeper is hanging up his gloves
Petr Cech spelled out his reasons for ending his football career:

This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of the season.

Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.

I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch.

Cech has seemingly made it plain that he will not join another team after he leaves Chelsea.

Cech has been one of the outstanding keepers in the Premier League.

The Czech international originally joined the league with Chelsea in 2004.

Cech spent eleven years at Stamford Bridge before he moved across London to Arsenal.

Cech was highly successful at Chelsea. He won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one Europa League title, and one Champions League title.

Since joining Arsenal in 2015, Cech has added one FA Cup winners’ medal.
