Rio Ferdinand reveals to Klopp secrete towards winning league title

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp looks on ahead of the Premier League match at Brighton and Hove Albion

Rio Ferdinand has told Jurgen Klopp to use a tactic employed by his old boss Alex Ferguson to help him win the Premier League title.

Liverpool went seven points clear at the top of the table against Brighton on Saturday with Manchester City and Tottenham – in second and third place – still with a game in hand.

The Reds’ boss is aiming to bring the first ever domestic title to Anfield and has steered his side into a strong position at the head of the table having played 22 games and amassing 57 points while only losing one game so far.

Ferdinand was talking about Liverpool’s title challenge on BT Sport and highlighted Klopp as the key man in their quest for Premier League glory.

The former Manchester United defender gave his advice to the manager and said he must use a tactic employed by his old boss Alex Ferguson in his bid to win the title.

Ferdinand suggested that he should copy the Ferguson trick of taking the pressure off his players and the focus away from Liverpool’s history.

“I think Jurgen Klopp, it’s important he actually tries to take the focus off of the history,” he said.

“That will be a big burden on their shoulders – if it’s allowed to be.

“When I was fortunate enough to be in a changing room with Sir Alex Ferguson, in times of need when the pressure is on, someone was chasing or when Liverpool or Chelsea were just ahead of us, he would find something we could hook into.

“It wouldn’t be obvious but it would be something about us a lot of the time – what we were good at, why we’re here.
“It would be little gems that he would put into your mind as an individual and it grew as a collective belief that you just cling on to.
