Kenya is a country that has surely withstood a lot of political anxiety with the most recent one being after the highly contested August 2017 General Elections that once again pitted Opposition Chief Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Raila lost after the chairman of the electoral body declared Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner with 54% of the votes cast to Raila’s 43%.

This outcome was eventually annulled by the Supreme Court following findings that the election was marred by “illegalities and irregularities”.

A subsequent fresh election ordered by the Court was won by Uhuru Kenyatta when Raila declined to participate citing inadequate reforms to enable a fair process in the repeat poll.

After this followed calls for Raila Odinga to be sworn in as the People’s President. These calls were spearheaded by the National Super Alliance Brigade (NASA) with self Declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna going on to oversee the oathing ceremony of Raila Odinga. Miguna was assisted by Ruaraka MP Tj Kajwang.

Things were so rosy between Raila and Miguna. The NRM general even wished Raila a Happy Birthday some days to his swearing in while calling on him to ensure he is sworn in without fail, something Raila Odinga did.

“#HappyBirthdayRaila! Ensure that you are sworn in this month without fail or #NRM – or a variant of it – shall march on without @CoalitionNASAKe. Announcing the date and venue of the exercise was a grave error. Kenyans aren’t going to wait for you anymore. Let’s move! #Resist,” tweeted Miguna Miguna.

Fast forward to 2019, Miguna and Raila no longer see eye to eye and with Raila Odinga’s birthday being today, it remains to be seen how Miguna will react. Will he wish the opposition Chief a happy Birthday or will he continue doing what he knows best, bashing Raila Odinga.

Miguna has accused Raila Odinga of betrayal after the opposition Chief decided to end his long standing animosity with President Kenyatta with this culminating to the now famous Handshake.
