Ademola Lookman’s Everton is looking into the possibility of signing 22-year-old Atalanta defender Gianluca Mancini having impressed for the Serie A club this season, with the likes of AS Roma and Inter Milan keeping tabs on him as well. According to reports, Everton boss Marco Silva is looking to bring in defensive reinforcements and is considering a bid for Mancini at the end of this season.
Everton is hunting for a centre-back ahead of next season with Kurt Zouma, who is spending another spell away from Chelsea on loan at Merseyside, likely to return to Stamford Bridge in July having failed to hold down a first team place at Everton this season. Also England international Michael Keane has struggled to impress consistently ever since he joined Everton while Phil Jagielka is past his peak. And with Yerry Mina the only reliable defender at the club, the Toffees are looking to invest in a quality defender soon. Defence has been a problem area for Silva and bringing in a talented defender such as Mancini is thought to be the way forward.
Mancini, who is very highly-rated in Italy, joined Atalanta from Serie B side Perugia in 2017. This season, the Italy youth international has made 17 appearances for Atalanta this season in all competitions, scoring five goals in the process. And though he shares same surname with former Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini, he is not related to the Italian national team coach
