Stand off, Confusion in schools following new directives

What is the real status of the schools right now? Are teachers even showing up in classes? What is the students turn up so far?

On Thursday, parents and learners were busy preparing themselves for the opening of schools.

On Wednesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed said the ministry was ready for the opening of schools.

New Curriculum

As the new term begins, county directors are also expected to oversee the rollout of the Competence-Based Curriculum that is expected to replace the 8-4-4 system.

On Thursday, the Kenya National of Union of Teachers (Knut) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) met following a court order compelling the two parties to negotiate.

But the big question remains how prepared were the parents for this implementation? Did they get the students the required items to enable the smooth adoption of the new curriculum?

Strike status and students turn up

Most schools in urban areas have recorded the highest numbers of attendance compared to those in the rural areas. Most schools have seen teachers turning up following the court order that barred the strike following the suspension of the planned teachers transfer that was the main cause of the strike.

But the KNUT have remained numb to the court order which has left many parents and students confused on the strike issue.

Despite the return of students to school their is still a lot of confusion. It is high time that the Education stakeholders vested with ensuring the smooth learning take up arms and tell the nation the state of education in the country to drive out the confusion.
