Anne Waiguru again??Kirinyaga MCAs put County boss on spot over Ksh 50M

Do you remember the NYS 1, in which Kirinyaga County governor Anne Waiguru is involved? Another scandal seems to have followed her to Kirinyaga County government! Kirinyaga MCA’s now want an explanation as to why their county boss Anne Waiguru slashed millions from the initial amount of funds set aside for bursaries.

According to the legislators, the county had allocated Kshs 70 million to facilitate bursary for students from the county.

However, Governor Waiguru only allocated Kshs 20 million to the bursary kitty which has seen the MCAs demand an explanation on the  whereabouts of the remaining Kshs 50 million.

According to them, they only learnt about the budget cut after they were summoned from their recess by their Deputy Speaker Joel Waugura after he received a letter from the Governor alerting them of the slash.

The MCAs later held an emergency meeting to discuss what they termed as Waiguru’s misappropriation of county funds.

Threatening not to accept the slash that translates to an allocation of Kshs 1 million per ward, an amount they termed inadequate for students in the county.

The MCAs also accused Waiguru of a ploy to deny Kirinyaga students from poor backgrounds opportunities to get funding for their education.

“We want an explanation on where the missing money is, considering the fact that since June 2018, we have not seen any development project for the year 2018/2019,” Mwea MCA, Harrison Mwaluko expressed in a press conference.

The legislators vowed to take unspecified action against Governor Waiguru if she did not remedy the situation.

Another legislator, Evans Kariukiof Murinuko Ward demanded that the County Boss reinstates the initial budget of Kshs 70 million to ensure that each ward got at least Kshs 3.5 million to enable students get bursaries.
